Tomlinson
extends NFL-record to 17 straight rushing touchdowns
It
took him a bit longer to get there than it had in previous
weeks, but Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson kept
history in tact Monday Night.
Tomlinson extended his NFL-record streak of consecutive
games with a rushing touchdown to 17 Sunday with a two-yard
run against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the Chargers
trailing 16-21 late in the fourth quarter, Tomlinson ducked
his head and plowed his way to pay dirt to give San Diego
a late lead.
The previous NFL record for consecutive games with a rushing
touchdown before Tomlinson broke it was 13 games, a mark
shared by a pair of former Washington Redskins, John Riggins
(1982-83) and George Rogers (1985-86).
Tomlinson now eyes the NFL record for consecutive games
with ether a rushing or receiving touchdown. That mark
is held by former Baltimore Colt Lenny Moore, who scored
in 19 straight games from 1963-1965.
Tomlinson’s nine touchdowns this season lead the
NFL.
